Legendary Winton Win
22nd June, 2007
Glenlands Legend, a 14 month old with a classic 'blue ribbon' parentage, stole the show at the recent Droughtmaster Feature Show at Winton. Legend, a poll, is a product of first-season sire, the $47 500 Glenlands Invincible (Swan Horsham). The youngster is a half maternal brother to the former breed record-holder, the $95 000 Glenlands Hilton.
Hitting the scales at 690kg, Legend's victory was his best to date after previous good fortune at Marlborough, The Caves and Theodore Show where he was interbreed champion male.
Judge Rodger Jefferis, Elrose, Cloncurry, and associate Jack Stewart-Moore, Telemon, Hughenden, promoted the youngster through the male ranks to take the grand championship ahead of his older other stablemates and opposition opponents, Glenlands Lieutenant and Glenlands Kingsley.
Leiutenant, at 21 months and weighing 790kg is by Calioran Benson (Swan Iron Man) and claimed the junior championship broadribbon. Team leader and the eventual senior championship winner for Glenlands was the 1095kg Glenlands Kingsley (Glenlands Element ll). Both Kingsley and Leiutenant are to be retained at stud.
In a stellar outing for the Childs family, Glenlands stud, located outside Bouldercombe, clinched the Breeder's Group, the Sire's Progeny group (Glenlands Invincible) then capped off their day with the sash for the most successful exhibitor after snaring both the reserve senior champion male with the 1010kg Glenlands D Khan 35 months, (Wingfield Eric), the reserve junior female Glenlands Lucinda and the reserve senior champion female Glenlands Kalinda. Glenlands Khan is a maternal half brother to the $35 000 record-priced female Glenlands D Hav-a-heart, and along with Glenlands Legend will headline for the Childs' sale in September.
