
YOUNGSTERS TOP $28,000 AT FIRST GLENLANDS SALE
In a classic tussle, seedstock producers and commercial cattlemen went head to head to produce the best male sale average ever recorded at a Droughtmaster bulls sale at the inaugural 2010 Glenlands Droughtmaster Sale, Gracemere.
The near total clerance saw 10 led bulls average $10,600 to top at $17,000 and 100 unled registered bulls hit $28,000 twice to averaging $6065 while 39 purebreds averaged $4718.
Market top sellers at $28,000 were two 23 month old bulls. Glenlands First Class by Swan Factor weighing 700kg with a 115 EMA sold to Hastings and Sandra Donaldson, Medway Stud, Bogantungan. Losing bidders were Ken and Kerry Mckenzie, Yaralla Stud, Blackwater. Equal top was a son of Cungelella Golden Eye, Glendlands Frankenstein whom boasting a 127EMA and weighed 744kg selling to Bill and Alison Zahnleiter, Durack Stud, Baralaba. Glenlands retained a share in both bulls.
Top led bull was the 24-month Glenlands Fabio (P) a 820kg son of Miloom Impulse selling to Trevor and Robin Taylor, Happy Valley Stud, Peachester.
Teys Bros., Sedgeford, Alpha took two to average $16,750 including the $17,000 23-month, 130 EMA Glenlands D Flash (Swan Eagan) and the 22-month 798kg, Glenlands D Farnham (P) for $16,500. Sedgeford was the losing bidder on Frankenstein earlier in the sale.
Peter and Deleece Carringotn, Rondel Stud, Winton paid $16,000 for their 31-month, 990kg, Glenlands Elliott (P) (129 EMA) while the Russell family, Consuelo, Rolleston took the $17,000 Glenlands D Fenech (23-months) (Miloom Impulse).
John and Donna Finger, Meadowbrook, Dysart paid on average $13,500 for their four purchases. Top of thier draft at $17,000 was the top selling herd bull scaling in at 912kg with an EMA of 130 and a final EBV of +14 by Glenlands 1049.
Ed and Gus Mccormack, Clonlara Stud, Glenmorgan selected two to average $12,500 topping at $13,000 for an Alma Nuggett son. Angus and Donna Deane, Malboona, Corfield accounted for seven to average $5500 and Brett Nobbs, Cungelella, Springsure took two to average $7500 including the $10,000 34-month-old Glenlands Emerson (Cungelella Farmhand).
Edward Bassett, Jenavale, Roma secured six to average $6167; John Crerar, Biloela took seven to average $5214; Dan Sullivan, Talagai, Capella claimed three to average $7000.
Fred Johnson, Hillsborough, Biloela outlaid $12,000 for Swan Kennett (P) and Alan Atkinson, Broadlea, Nebo took the $10,000 Glenlands Fritz (P) by Billabong W/5 202.

$34,000 RECORD AT GLENLANDS
Sale summary
Despite tough seasonal conditions and a reduced panel of buyers, registered bulls hit a event record $34,000 at last weeks Glenlands Droughtmaster Sale, Gracemere.
Vendors, the Childs families also sold joined females to a $10,500 high resulting in an overall female average of $2032, a bull average of $4086, culminating in a 98 percent clerance. In 2001 149 bulls averaged $6017, topping at $28,000 to clear 97pc.
Market topper at $34,000 was the 27-month-old heavyweight Glenlands Fig (P). scaling in at 916kg, the Swan Fact son with a double cross of Swan 609 and an EMA area of 140sq cm went ot Fred and Juleen Johnson, Hillsborough, Biloela who fended off Wayne and Grant Veivers, Talgai Stud, Rolleston.
Talgai Stud took the $11,000 22-month-old Cungelella Farmhand son, Glenlands Gazette (P) along with tow others to average $6167 and also paid $3250 for a Sunderland Ballero daughter.
At $22,000 was the 1004kg, 34-month-old Glenlands D Fergus (P) with a 134 EMA sellnig to Jeff Hodgkinson, Cairo, Clermont who also paid $9000 for the 20-month-old 692kg, poll, Glenlands Gillespie (Foundation). Backing up his private sales from last year was John Quintana, Waterloo Station, Katherine, NT whom through Hourn and Bishop, Moura bought 27 to average $2000. The Carmichael family, Lochinvar, Augathella was another strong supporter accounting for 18 to average $2695 while Doug Howard, Bindareee, Moura averaged $2417 for his six.
Top unled bull was the 32-month-old Farnham Atilla product, Glenlands Flagship (P) making $14,000 and going to John and Bronwen Piggott's, Fairhaven Stud, Rolleston. Edward Bassett, Jenavale, Roma paid $12,000 for Glenlands D Gunfire (Swan Eagan) while Brett Nobbs, Cungelella, Springsure averaged $6167 for his trio which included a $8000 Cungelella Foundation son.
John and Donna Finger, Lake Lofty Pty Ltd, Meadowbrook, Dysart returned for two to average $7250 including the $10,000 poll, Glenlands Fritz (Swan Heritage). Ted Hart, Hodgson River Station, NT selected the $11,000, 33-month Glenlands Freshwater (Wingfield Rocket). Another from the NT, Reg Underwood, Bunda Station claimed a $6000 Swan Factor son. Hodgson River also accounted for two females at an average $1875.
Top female was the $10,500 28-month-old Glenlands Firefly (P) selling to the Purnell family, Calioran Stud, Rockhampton. By Swan Factor she carried a four month postive test to the record priced $46,000 Talgai 730. Losing bidders were Mario and Fred Gallo, Wylandra Stud, Mareeba.

Glenlands Droughtmaster bulls went to all parts of Queensland, Western Australia and NT at the 2003 annual Glenlands Sale posting an overall sale average of $4045 and a 99 percent clearance.
Fred and Juleen Johnson, Hillsborough, Biloela took one of the equal top sellers, the $17,000 Glenlands D Gallagher (36-months). By Swan Horsham, Gallagher scaled in at 974kg and with an EMA of 129 and fat depth readings of 13/8mm was marketed with 180 straws of semen. Horsham's 18 sons averaged $4556. Equal top was the 19-month-old, Glenlands Herald by the first season sire, Glenlands Emblem. Weighing 664kg with an EMA of 110 and a daily gain of 1.08kg the heifers first calf sold to the Karinya Partnership, Allora owned by Allan Matson. Five by Emblem averaged $8700.
Jumbuck Pastoral Company, Meda and Blina Stations, Kimberley , WA took 14 for an average $2893. Callum Maclachan, Adelaide selected males for the company's bull-multiplying herd for the two million acre aggregation. John Quintana, Wallco Pty Ltd, Darwin took 14 for a $2179 average while Richard and Robyn Simmons, Avon Downs, Clermont invested $100,000 for their 32 head topping at $5000.
Greg Bowden, Tackeracka, Moura ended with 10 for a $4750 average. Top of his draft at $7000 was the 26-month Cungelella Farmhand son, Governor (876kg).
Anthony Anderson, Eddington Station, Julia Creek took eight for a $3625 average while John Lund, Kalarah, Emerald claimed 6 to average $2917 and the Price family, Leemar Droughtmasters, Mt Hope, Wallumbilla another 6to average $3750.
Brett Nobbs, Inverrio, Duaringa selected three to average $6667 topping at $8500 for a 33-month-old by Cungelella Foundation.
The Purnell family, Calioran Stud, Alton Downs selected the $10,000 21-month, 676kg, Glenlands High Profile (Emblem) while the Jarvis family, Oakfield, Clifton paid the same money for 848kg, 122EMA, Glenlands Hot Shot (P) (24-months) by the $42,000 Swan Jeopardise. John Baker, Booroondarra, Middlemount claimed sale opener, the 1072kg Glenlands George (P) (Horsham) for $9000 with Aubrey and Ross Kinbacher, Garthowen Stud, Biggenden taking the $7500 Wingfield Eric son, Glenlands D Harrison (P) (21-months).
John and Bronwen Piggott, Fairhaven Stud, Rolleston outlaid $6000 for a 23-month-old Swan Factor son. Jim Primrose, Gympie secured with a $7500 bid a 20-month-old Sunderland Ballero male with a final EBV of +21 while Russell Letchford, Cosmos, Middlemount outlaid an average $5500 for their two. Stewart Becker, Passchendale, Moura set a $6500 average for his pair topping at $9000 for a 35-month-old by Ballero. Dan Sullivan, Talgai, Capella returned to take four for a $4250 average. Bill Acton, Krismark, Moura picked up a $6500 Farmhand entry at 34-months while another by Farmhand made $5000 going to Richard and Vicki Hawkins, Bon Accord, Anakie who ended with three for a $4000 average.

All major existing breed records were smashed at the 2004 annual Glenlands Droughtmaster Sale, Gracemere. New benchmarks were set in the bull, female, joined female, semen, gross and sale average categories catapulting the prefix, it’s owners and the breed into a new era to the way to setting a record gross of $1.19m
Frenzied demand saw 12 led registered bulls set a $19,958 average topping at $95,000 while 114 unled counterparts topped at $20,000 (twice) to average $5750 to end with an overall average figure for that category of $6945. Thirty-three purebred males topped at $11,000 setting a $5182 average while nine led registered females cracked $35,000 on the way to averaging a mammoth $14,111 with joined females topping at another record $14,000. Demand didn’t dissipate as semen sold to a record $550 per straw ($5500/package) setting a category average of $3500/package ($350/straw).
The Childs families, Glenlands Stud, Bouldecombe saw male values climb by $2533 per head over the 2003 result with 234 bidders cards completed before the sale commenced. Their genetics found 70 destinations from as far west as the Kimberley region of WA, the NT and all parts of Queensland.
David Torrisi, Vitwood Stud, Pialba rewrote the record books to secure the $95,000 Glenlands Hilton (33-months). Offered on a three-quarter share and full possession, Hilton tipped the scales at 950kg and delivered an EMA reading of 128cm sq. Loosing bidders was Fred and Juleen Johnson, Chipahill Stud, Biloela. Terry and Jenny O’Meara, Halcyon Stud, Gympie secured the 2004 RNA junior champion, Invincible for $47,500. With a final EBV of +31 (63%) the 20-month-old son of Swan Horsham was also offered on a three-quarter-share basis and weighed 805kg with an EMA of 110.
Charles and Grace Lund, Raglan, Clermont secured the new female auction record by raising the bar by $17,000 to pay $35,000 for the 2004 RNA champion, D Hav-A-Heart (Horsham). With a bull at side the three-year-old was sold open with the loosing bidders the Purnell family, Calioran Stud, Alton Downs. Establishing the new record for joined females at $14,000 was the Corbett family, Karragarra Stud, Gympie for the 21-month-old, Innocence (Talgai 730) who carried an eight-week test to Horsham. Semen rocketed to record levels with the Keith and Jo Hill Castletower Stud, Calliope paying $5500 ($550/straw) for the package in Horsham.
Top herd bull was a rising three-year-old snapped up by Peter Graham, Yalkara, Biloela for $11,000.
Rod and Lyn Sperling, Rodlyn Stud, Bell outlaid the equal top unled registered bull money taking the $20,000 He’s Got The Look (Wingfield Eric) with an EMA reading of 130cmsq. Volume support came from Richard and Robyn Simmonds, Avon Downs, Clermont taking 20 for an average $4550. Seamark, Mandalay, Dululu ended with a card of 15 posting an average of $3833. Charlie Hawkins, Herbertvale Station, Mt Isa took nine for a $6611 average while David Corbett, Jersey Plains, Cloncurry ended his card with 10 for a $4200 average. Callum Maclachan, Meda and Blina Stations, Kimberley returned to take seven for a $3500 average.
Steven and Claire Farmer, Comanche Stud, Morinish selected two for a $15,000 average topping at $20,000 (equal top unled price) for 33-month-old son of the $40,000 Swan Jeopardise. Bill and Alison Zahnleiter, Durack Stud, Baralaba took the $15,000 Havoc (Sunderland Bolero) while the 24-month-old, Idol (Cungelella Foundation) made $13,000 selling to the Richters family, Surprise, St George. The Donaldson family, Medway Stud, Bogantungan ended with a trio to average $9833. Bill Acton, Krismark Downs, Theodore took three for a $6667 average. Another Foundation son to sell high was the $16,000 Hallam (P) (31-months) going to Colin and Linda Hewitt, Stirling, Roma who ended with a $7500 average for five. The Johnson family, Hillsborough Pastoral Company, Biloela took the $16,000, 31-month-old Hillview (Emblem) while David and Rosemary Purnell, Calioran Stud, Alton Downs paid $28,000 for the cow and bull calf unit, Havana (Ballero) and Judgement. The Corbett family, Karragarra Stud, Gympie outlaid an average $12,000 for their three females including the cow and female calf unit, Honey (Crusader Mission II) for $15,000. David Torrisi made his presence felt throughout the catalogue collecting two heifers for an $8000 average and another male, Indulgence (P) (21-months) for $6000. John Baker, Booroondarra, Middlemount took two bulls for a $9750 average. The Woolcock family, Oakey Creek, Springsure averaged $4900 for their five, Junee Pastoral Company, Dingo ended with six for a $5083 average. Wayne and Judy Veivers, Talgai Stud, Rolleston claimed three for an $8334 average.

Four more breed records came the way of the Childs family, Glenlands Stud, Bouldecombe at their annual sale, Gracemere last week.??Establishing new benchmarks in a new record gross, record unjoined heifer, record semen and embryo packages, the vendors witnessed their cattle find homes from the NT, NSW, South Australia and all parts of the state.
Statistics revealed that 13 led bulls averaged $17,962 to top at $52,500 while 113 unled registered bulls sold to $40,000 to average $6128 while 30 herd bulls topped at $14,000 to average 5283. The bottom line male average of $6858 is a $280 per head increase over the previous years record result with an extra 17 bulls sold. (Last year 159 bulls av $6578 to top at $95,000).
Females topped at $16,000 for unmated heifers while the cow and calf units topped at $13,000. Semen shares made to a record $8500 ($850/straw) to set a record average of $4900/package ($490/straw) with the two embryos selling for $4000 and $4500 respectively.
Tim Berry, Lagoona Bay Stud, Amamoor took home the market topper the $52,500 Glenlands Imparja. The 27-month-old reserve senior RNA champion scaled 965kg with an EMA scan of 142cm sq and will commence duties with 120 breeders at his new home. Glenlands retained a semen share in Imparja. Fred and Julienne Johnson, Chipahill Stud, Biloela were the losing bidders on the bull. ??At $40,000 Glenlands Fabel II (27-months) was snapped up by the AC Cattle Company, Jenny-Glen, Theodore. Sired by Glenlands Eastwood he scaled in at 930kg and delivered an EMA reading of 132cm sq and a fat depth scan of 12/8mm. Another high seller was the Swan Horsham son, I-Spy (31-months) making $37,500 selling to Gary and Karen Corbett, Karragarra Stud, Gympie. Glenlands retained a quarter share in the bull. Losing bidders on both Fabel II and I-Spy was Bill and Alison Zahnleiter, Durack Stud, Baralaba. Late in the sale Judy Purse, Capella claimed the $30,000 19-month-old Johnstone (Fremantle) after fending off the Swan and Little families, Swan Heart Stud, Yamala. Johnstone will be the foundation sire for Judy’s newly formed prefix.
Returning for the third year were Richard and Robyn Simmonds, Avon Downs, Clermont. The major player at the sale, they took 21 males for a $4762 average. Another to add strength was Ken Bright, Cashmere West, St George securing 13 for a $4885 average. Andromeda Cattle Company, Eddington, Mungallala took six to average $4833 while Richard Luck, Junee, Dingo picked the same number for an average $6000. John and Heather Loch’s, Bucknulla, Westwood averaged $3300 for their five with Charlie and Jacky Hawkins, Herbertvale, Mt Isa returned for seven at an average $4000.??Top selling herd bull at $14,000 was a poll by Swan Go-Cat went to Alastair and Karen Kirk, Olinda, Baralaba. Olinda ended with four to average $9750 including a 31-month-old Horsham son for $14,000. Bill and Jenny Acton, Krismark Downs, Theodore took the 34-month-old, Ideal (Wingfield Eric) for $24,000 while foundation prefix, Kirknie Stud, Home Hill secured the $15,000 Icon (Swan 1636) at 26-months. Roseland Stud, Gympie operated by Brian and Rose Calvert and family, took home the $17,000 Incinerate (Swan Factor) with the Fernleigh Stud, Theodore owned by Cec Pellling claiming the $19,000 Eric entry, Ivan (P) aged 28-months. Mt Riddock Pastoral Company, Greenhills, Muttaburra outlaid $16,000 for the led 25-month-old Felix (Eastwood) with David and Anita Torrisi, Vitwood Stud, Pialba taking the $17,000 Incite (P) by Swan Icecapade. Another Horsham at $28,000 was the 22-month-old Jet Set selling to the Heck family, Bryvonlea Stud, Gympie.
Ed and Gus McCormack, Clonlara Stud, Glenmorgan took the $25,000 Jukebox (Fremantle) aged 26-months while the Swan Heart herd has a new sire the $10,000, Juvenile. David and Betty Salter, Glen Fosslyn Stud, Glenmorgan secured a $10,000 son of their sire, 125 while SA breeder, Bob McQueen, Marosa Stud, Victor Harbour, took a Fremantle son (33-months) for $11,000.
Record priced unmated heifer title is now at $16,000 thanks to the Karragarra Stud, Gympie with their acquisition, Kelsey an 11-month-old by Emblem. Losing bidder was the Purnell family, Calioran Stud, Alton Downs. Top selling unit was the $13,000 Harmony and a bull calf, Kinsley (Clonlara 213) going to the Davey family, Emerald. Semen in the RNA champion, Hatch sold for a record $850/straw to the Lever family, Leverdale Stud, Euramo while a package in Horsham sold for $7500 ($750/straw) to the Weick family, Bellingen, NSW. The pair of embryos sold for $4000 and $4500 respectively to the Morrow family, Pialba and the Karragarra Stud, Gympie.

Bulls hit a seasonal high of $80,000 and the Droughtmaster breed witnessed yet another record private vendor gross at the 2006 Glenlands Sale, Gracemere.
In a unprecedented display of breed and vendor confidence registered bulls topped $80,000 to average $7597, purebred bulls soared to $14,000 to average $4975 while registered females hit $20,000 to average $9154, commercial PTIC heifers sold to $2200 per head to average $1772. In the genetic material section of the sale five semen packages set a $4100 average to top at $6500 while the breeds first IVF embryo made $5000.
In another complete clearance vendors, the Childs families saw their genetics sell in a market where 31 individuals sold for sums of $10,000 or more going to WA, NSW and the NT. Setting the pattern for the day 14 led bulls averaged $24,357 while 140 unled registered counterparts topped at $17,000 to average $5921.
Sale topper at $80,000 Jade (1025kg) sold via phone with Ed Chambers, Elders Breeding Services, Rockhampton to Len, Sue and Margot Bode, Percol Plains, McKinlay fending off David and Anita Torrisi, Vitwood Stud, Pialba. At $37,500 Vitwood claimed the 1080kg sale opener, Immense while the $32,500 John Boy sold to John and Donna Atkinson, Glen Ruth Stud, Hughenden. All three were marketed on a three quarter share basis with the parent stud retaining a semen share in John Boy and Immense. The other bull that the stud retained a share in was the $12,000 Judicator (30-months) going to Bill and Jenny Acton, Krismark Downs, Theodore. Vitwood were again major players taking the top selling female the $20,000 Jillaroo and calf, the $17,000 Kilby (P) (Swan 1636) and the $15,000 Kincaide (Swan Factor) (P). The latter the only other bull offered in a three-quarter/full procession arrangement.
Mac and Gayle Shann, Lamont Stud, Clermont took the $30,000 Wingfield Eric son, Keystone (P) while the $22,000 Kingston (P) 20-months sold to the Roma based Oberina Grazing Company. Edge and Allan Webber, Nardoo, Cloncurry took the $20,000 Jardine (P) (Eric) and the $13,000 Juggler (P) (Federation). Don Gordon, Teys Brothers, Sedgeford, Alpha selected the $20,000 Jackson and the $8500 Kudos (22-months) for their bull breeding programme. Three bulls were marketed under a three-quarter and full procession arrangement with semen already sold for export to Asian interests, the $10,000 Justice selling to Hugh and Cherri Philp, Wyena, Clermont, Jade ($80,000) and the $11,000 Jag picked up by Brian and Rose Calvert, Roselands Stud, Woodford.
Richard and Robyn Simmonds, Avon Downs, Clermont took 20 bulls for to average $5075 while Bash Carmichael, Newcome, Augathella claimed 12 to average $3959. Arcturus Downs, Springsure bought 12 at an average $3209 and Charlie and Jackie Hawkins, Herbertvale Station, Camooweal accounted for 16 to av $4969. RJ Firm, Wedgewood, Burslem, Muttaburra signed off on 22 to average $4160. Richard Luck, Junee, Dingo took six to average $5917 with Greg Bowden, Tackeracka, Mora ending with three to average $6167. Angus and Donna Deane, Malboona, Corfield active in the commercial females and bulls took home 18 lots to average $3789. Pauline Cox, Inkerman Station, Ayr took five to average $3600.
Mark and Leonie Davey, Lonemark Stud, Emerald took the $22,000 Jalpeno (28-months) with Lisa Bishop, Gunalda taking the $16,000 Kieran (20-months).
Glenlands Inala (Cungelella Henry) a 41-month-old Expo reserve champion carrying a positive test to the $47,500 Invincible sold for $12,000 to the Lambert family, Milla Milla with her daughter, Likeness (Billabong Marshall) making the same and selling to the Craiglea Stud, Kenilworth. Kestrel a two-year-old daughter of Clonlara 02213 made $12,500 selling to Paul and Susan Murray, Yarrum Stud, NSW. Glenlands Jasmine (Element) heavy in calf to the $95,000 Hilton made $10,000 selling to Arakata Pty Ltd, Toowoomba.
